Nurses working in Covid-19 care and Intensive Care units received appreciation donations from Suriname Natural Stone Co NV, and partnering companies Moneyline and Speedwire Money Transfer NV. Between SRD 500 and SRD 750 was distributed per individual nurse. More than SRD450,000 has been distributed among 753 nurses. Although the companies already donate a lot to fight the impact of the pandemic, this was a personal 'thank you' to these front-line workers in the medical sector.
The team went to visit the largest hospitals in Suriname, and the number of eligible nurses per hospital was specified based on the COVID departments. Some of the hospitals that were visited were:
- The Regional Hospital Wanica
- The Academic Hospital
- The Diakonessen Hospital
- The Mungra Medical Center
- The s’ Lands Hospital
Bryan Hoever, Managing Director of Suriname Natural Stone Co, indicated that, in addition to the needs in the hospitals themselves, especially the people working "at the beds" are having a very hard time. “Despite the bad economic situation, we all find ourselves in as a country, these are the people who are working overtime almost every day to help us in this battle. The various reports from the hospitals speak for themselves. We really wanted to thank those people with this project.
As the Business Community in Suriname knows and feels the pain of the pandemic, it is already supporting the fight against COVID-19 by making funds for necessary equipment available for hospitals. This was however, a personal ‘thank you’ to all these hard-working nurses. Medical Director Fausia Poese, of the Wanica Regional Hospital, mentioned that this gesture was deeply appreciated by all nurses and indicated that this is a motivation for those who work hard every day in the hospitals to fight this virus.
